“Excellent plan, Citizen Marvin”
“Thank you General Bob.”
“Our Supreme Leader will be well pleased.”
“Might I expect a reward from His Greatness?”
“Oh course – the honour of being the first to initiate Plan 9*”
Marvin gulped. That was not quite what he had in mind: a medal placed around his neck by the lovely Her Supremeness, some spending money, adoring women, a parade, a cruise.
But he was trapped. As trapped as he would be on the Johnston’s lawn. His cruise — intergalactic.
Poor Marvin. His Plan 9: to hide in plain sight. The suburbia invasion had begun. (99 words)

*Plan 9 from Outer Space is a bad Grade B cult classic from the absurdist mind of director Ed Wood. The movie, Ed Wood, starring Johnny Depp, is worth the watch, if for no other reason than the Academy Award winning performance of Martin Landau as the aging Bela Lugosi.

Glad to hear you are a fellow connoisseur! There was a movie festival in Ottawa, Ontario that was all about bad movies. It was a real hoot. It was called, I believe, Rotten Tomatoes! And, as a result, every Friday night, they showed bad movies on a local channel.
Here, its Svengoolie on METV.

“Plan 9 from Outer Space”. Haven’t seen that one in decades. Have to watch those old, really bad films just one.

We watch Svengoolie on Saturday night. He runs old horror films — some with a touch of quality, others, well . . . .

I like your take on this prompt! I loved the “hiding in plain sight”. I used that a form of that thinking in my story. Great minds, they say!

I’m having trouble leaving comments on the blogger platform, so I wanted to say here — I love your story! The twist at the end is delicious. Well done.
Yes, great minds think alike. Then my mother would counter with “but fools seldom differ,” lol.

Thanks.
It’s a great movie for popcorn and a break from the ordinary. Landau as Lugosi is absolutely marvelous.

Thanks. Glad you liked the Plan 9 reference. Once I started the story, I thought Marvin has to be designing a Plan 9!

Poor Marvin indeed, what a horrible task! I love that you brought Plan 9 into it. A local theater group does the play based on Plan 9 and it is absolutely hilarious!

The play must be so good, as the movie is so bad! Sounds like a fun evening!

Having watched Ed Wood the movie I would say its worth watching for no other reason than seeing you a movie shouldn’t be made. Enjoyed your response to this image Lorraine.

Thanks. Thought, if little green men were coming, what better way to infiltrate our communities. Or at least the ones in the area Mark took the picture, lol.

Those who are brave enough to think should make sure they aren’t the volunteer. I’ll have to see if I can find the movie. 👽

You should give it a watch! Absolutely amazing Landau performance, and Ed Wood’s bad, bad movies remade in the picture.
