I have been enjoying The Boy, the mole, the fox and the horse, written and illustrated by Charlie Mackesy
His journey with the boy, the mole, the fox and the horse has consumed him. He lives in their world a lot of the time and has loved making the book.
Charlie Mackesy
He thinks G. K. Chesterton sums it all up well: “At the back of our brains, so to speak, there was a forgotten blaze or burst of astonishment at our own existence. The object of the artistic and spiritual life was to dig for this submerged sunrise of wonder.”
Charlie Mackesy
I didn’t find an image of my favourite page in the book, his final musing:
“Home isn’t always a place, is it?”
All illustrations are technically copyrighted to Charleie Mackesy. I have “grabbed” them from various image searches done on Bing and Google.
Thanks, Charlie, for this wonderful book, and hopefully, for not suing me over the slide show.

I’ve seen Mackesy’s drawings for quite some time and have always enjoyed them – there is a wonderful spontaneity and energy that I really enjoy – and yes, there are such simple elements in the story (which I haven’t read) but I’ve seen some of them floating about too – and I have to say, they are just so moving and elegant; stunning because in a wildly busy and mad for it rushing world, they BREAK – and force us to stop and think – not only with the intellectual mind, but most importantly, with our hearts –
I love your image showcase – fabulous — and yes, when I grow up, I’d like to be Kind.
I’m so glad that you’ve taken time to cobble this together and share it – I really like your “some of favourite things” editions — they bring a smile to my face and a softness to my soul – because how often do we actually get a chance, a moment, to share what moves us — without all the pomp, fluff and “hey look at me!” garbage —
your posts just tickle my fancy – how wonderful!
I hope you’re having a most wonderful day – and that yes, everyone is Kind to you today, and this week ….
take care my friend :)

Thanks Pat for stopping by, for your, as always, poetic and encouraging comment. I just posted about the “dragon’s eye” lake in Japan. I do have a “folder” on my computer with favourite things. Perhaps between cleaning up the house, and clearing out the attic, I should dip my fingers into that folder.
Your always so kind with me, you must be a grown-up (or for us, is it groan-up?)[written with a silly grin on my face]

I could/should just said — Love the post! The images, the ideas, the drawings … but you know me … LOL — ;)
actually, it’s cool to have a “fave” folder – I too have similar – and why not share? right? because too often we’re busy “performing” – or creating/writing or playing to a prompt – so the “small” slices that just are inspiring or fill us with wonder are lovely – and important too – they fuel daydreams, hope and awe. :)
LOL @ groan up — yeah, most days it feels like this – ugh ….
and on another note – that Dragon’s Eye is pretty darn cool! wow!
thanks again and hope the weekend closes softly and the week’s door opens with soft light and gentle breezes :)

“What do you want to be when you grow up?” “Kind”, said the boy.
