scrawled: a not-very-festive response to mlmm photo challenge 246 and mlmm wordle (December 21)
This covid year:
no snuggery with cheery fireplace
no frosted evergreen with star atop
no mittens holding mug of cocoa
no red wrapping paper
only sorrow; death
whispering “your turn” 30
wordle list: mug; snuggery; fireplace; mittens; frost; star; alms; shiver; evergreen; red; cocoa; wrapping paper

It’s sure the truth for all too many this year. I appreciate forthright poetry that doesn’t shy away from reality.

Sometimes I do get very sad about this past year; and worried about what will happen after folks gather, unwisely, for Christmas.
In the face of all the sadness and deaths, I wanted to do something “of cheer” for Christmas. I wrote up 130 christmas cards for two long term care facilities to be distributed to residents — especially those who weren’t receiving many cards.
It was hard, when doing this, not to think of death. In my town, almost all the fatalities were folks in the long-term care/assisted living facility not far from my house.
In the new year, I’m going to continue with this “virtual” volunteering by making cards with positive, cheery statements for one of the facilities. These would go on resident’s trays during this time of having to dine in their rooms.
I hope you and your friends and family are safe and wish you health, happiness and hope in the new year.

Yes, of course, with fingers crossed. Seeing the back end of the virus would make for a better 2021.The development and release of vaccines could be the answer to pandemic-fueled questions. I hope so, at least.
