This is the 21st annual GBBC. Participation is easy; check it out at

You don’t have to be a professional birdwatcher/photography to join in.

Be a citizen scientist this weekend, help the folks at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, Audubon and Bird Studies Canada keep track of the birds in your area.

This is a world-wide event!

Download a bird watching/bird identifying app. Then head out – to your window, your neighbourhood, a park. Make note the number and species of birds you see during one day. Watch for at least 15 minutes — a small investment with a big pay off.

It’s all explained here, including printable bird check lists for your area.

Submit your data. Visit interactive maps. Explore the world of birds.

Submit photographs to win prizes!

Let me know if you participated, and highlights of what you saw.

What phantasmagorical way to spend some quality time.
