Welcome to my nightmare. Well, to Alice Cooper’s.
In my teens, I knew all the words to “Dead Babies,” School’s Out for the Summer,” “No More Mr. Nice Guy,” and, of course, “Welcome to My Nightmare,” the second installment in count down to howlin’en.
Alice is the Godfather (or Godmother?) of shock rock; his songs work in any creepy song list. Had to pick one, so nightmare won the lottery.
Speaking of lotteries, read Shirley Jackson’s short story, “The Lottery,” to learn winning isn’t always the best thing . . .
[Oh, and I attended an Alice Cooper concert in the early 1970s. That’s all I will reveal about the “experiment.”]
What songs/videos and reads would you suggest to curl up with as the wolf moon rises?

Welcome to My Nightmare
Welcome to my nightmare
I think you’re gonna like it
I think you’re gonna feel like you belong
A nocturnal vacation
Unnecessary sedation
You want to feel at home ’cause you belong
Welcome to my nightmare
Welcome to my breakdown
I hope I didn’t scare you
That’s just the way we are when we come down
We sweat and laugh and scream here
’cause life is just a dream here
You know inside you feel right at home here
Welcome to my breakdown
Whoa
You’re welcome to my nightmare
Yeah
Welcome to my nightmare
I think you’re gonna like it
I think you’re gonna feel that you belong
We sweat laugh and scream here
‘Cause life is just a dream here
You know inside you feel right at home here
Welcome to my nightmare
Welcome to my breakdown
Yeah

Never a huge fan – but I did enjoy some of his more commercial hits, and to be sure, he fits the bill for the countdown.
Your questions have me thinking – and my mind draws a blank – but hey, then Poe and The Raven came to mind. :)

A classic — I once could quoth the poem. What would Howlin’en be without Poe!
Alice is a remnant of coming of age. Not something I listen to when nostalgic, but a touch stone of sorts.
