Sarah posted: “Saturday Mix – Double Take, 30 September 2017
This week we are seeing double again. That’s right, it’s time for another…
The ‘Double Take’ challenge focuses on the use of homophones . . . to build your writing piece. You have two sets of homophones and you are challenged to use all four words in your response – which can be poetry or prose.
Our first homophone set this week is:
straight – not crooked
strait – narrow waterway
Our second set of homophones is:
discussed – talked about
disgust – sickening”
And, Dan from no facilities filling in for Linda @ LindaGHill posted:
“Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “do/dew/due”. Use one, use two or use all three. If you start and end with two of them, you get bonus points. If you use all three AND start and end with two of them, you get Linda’s bonus points plus, I’ll match hers – from me to you. And, lest we all forget – Enjoy!”
And, I wrote with no editorial consciousness or logical thought process:
What was she to do? She never got it straight; her geography was crooked. Strait of Magellan; Strait of Hormuz; Northumberland Strait; Bougainville Strait; Strait of Canso; Strait of Georgia; Strait of Belle Isle.* Where were these mysterious channels, sounds, inlets?
When she discussed her geographic dyslexia with her teachers, the conversations ended in pedantic disgust. And she was more confused than ever. Getting the straits straight became her obsession. No more disgusting discussions. No more dewy-eyed naivety. She started a blog, “strait talk”; today she has a gazillion followers, also geographically challenged.
She feels validated. And has a PhD in education obtained on line. After all, it was what she was due!
* ok, a bit of cheating here. I am geographically challenged too. ; )

Wow, a tour de force. You kept it on the straight and narrow. :)

Thanks, Deborah. I didn’t want to end in the straits of strait, lol.

Brilliant! What a great job using all five words in a humorous tale 😃
P.s I am geographically challenged also! Always been more of a history buff

Thanks for the positive assessment.
Same here — I used to teach history. When it got mixed with geography, well . . .

For touching all the bases on this one, I’m gonna give you those bonus points ✔️☑️ .
Although, in the spirit of country music and Hee Haw, I might have gone with George Strait 🙂

Thanks for the points. And, true! I should have thrown him in for good measure. Sigh. That would have been super-bonus points. Haven’t thought of Hee Haw in years. Isn’t playing on any of the retro TV stations I get, lol.

Just thought of another — Dire Straits! How could I forget them. Money for Nothing and all.

Enjoyed your inner voices, btw. My own are often characters banging around, trying to bypass me and appeal directly to my fingers hovering over the key board. Then, of course, there are the other ones . . .

Uh oh, the ones we never let out…? These guys keep trying, but I tend to overthink things, and they get pushed to the corner. I guess we have to learn to balance their thoughts with those “well-considered” ones.
Thanks for stopping by and for the comment.
