Pat, for mlmm wordle #173, has assigned the usual and expect list of decadent, delicious, devilish words to play with. (My brain is feverishly cold-addled; as a boon, I indulged in a sweet memory and a small slice of plain New York style cheesecake):
Something borrowed . . . ecru lace gloves that once graced the blue-veined hands of my great-grandmother “borrowed” from my sister’s lavender-sacheted drawer. Something blue . . . my seraphic petticoats, with rows of tiny embroidered flowers: blue bells, anemones, asters, rising to the heavens on vines of verdant green.
I never thought I would be a supplicant to the marriage altar. Yet here I stood this chill November morn outside the small dilapidated St. Winifred of the Meadowlark Chapel. About to make the sort of disastrous match Mother was alarmed about: “Young girls squandering themselves for love. How selfish your generation has become.”
Jabez did not lack polish nor wit and intelligence. But as a member of the performing dramatic arts, not at all suitable as a suitor. Mother need not know how well he could bend and tickle. Or his excellent skill in choosing (impending) baby names. There was no neutrality in my smile as I heard his familiar footfalls approaching.
Definitions: supplicant: person who prays to God or respectfully asks an important person to help them or give them something they want very much; seraphic: characteristic of/or resembling a seraph or seraphim | seraphim is an angelic being, regarding in traditional Christian angelology as belonging to the highest order of the nine fold celestial hierarchy, associated with light, ardor, and purity; petticoats: a woman’s light, loose undergarment hanging from the shoulders or the waist, worn under a skirt or dress; ecru: light beige colour of unbleached linen.

Lovely work Lorraine, this week was a challenge and I think Pat is scheming to try and provide us with the ultimate wordle challenge as being an impossible one to write too, but we shall overcome such attempts…..wont we?

Moi? Moi? would I consider doing something like this?!?? LOL – Never. Never.
But if you’re trying to goad me??? LOL ;)
Actually, sitting and thinking up word collections for a wordle isn’t as easy as you would think – trying to find a balance between just easy enough to manage but difficult, or quirky or edgy enough to make it interesting. I mean, there are several “easier” wordle games out there, and hey, I’d like to think that our game players are able to dig a bit deeper and stretch their imaginations – LOL – and I believe and know this is true!
Have a great rest of the week and weekend Michael :D And I presume I will find you when next week’s guest wordle rolls around ;) …. because you do love a good game :D

I agree, wordles aren’t as easy as they appear. Especially as you and Yves include those lovely rarely used words, and I like your couplet words — how about a short phrase to make things more challenging?
I do love those words that require definition — especially when I thought they meant something else, lol.

LOL – well, the next guest wordle, does have a phrase included as a bonus gift, courtesy of the guest wordler?? LOL – well, rare words are interesting too – I think we forget just how much variety there is within the English language, which is why Sarah’s exercises are fun – great ways to “relearn and remember” the wealth of possibilities at our fingertips :D

Me? Goading you? NEVER. As always I will look forward to next week and I do understand making up a wordle is not easy. But you do come up with a challenge and I wouldn’t want it any other way.

LOL – well, perhaps it’s the “play” of challenging each other, and celebrating the wonderful imaginations and creativity that makes it so much fun – because it takes two to tango, and trying it alone? well, that would be interesting, if not a little weird looking ;)

roflmao – not with my back as it is and messed up left knee ;) it would be hilarious and the type of thing warranting the comment “don’t give up your day job” – but wait, I don’t have a day job! Holy crap, I’m corkscrewed. ;)

Now, corkscrewing is a perfect example of a pole dance. See, you do have the proper mindset, if not the proper physical condition. No, with a bad back and knee not the best form of recreation or profession.

Flag pole sitting — a retro past-time unfortunately abandoned in this modern world. And, hey, how much more patriotic than merely standing for the national anthem (I assume you have heard of Trump vs the NFL players making quiet politic statements.

oh my god – like when will the Bumster stop meddling in crap that is none of his business and start paying attention to the real problems? Oh, wait, he did that, right? And BLAMED Puerto Ricans for their plight? Yeah, let’s offer a standing ovation, (yes, I’m about to get wickedly politically incorrect here) and ask the US and every.single.person.who.voted.for.him (regardless of reasons) to please stand up and take a most gracious bow.
Yeah, dead fucking brilliant.
Sick.

I figure if you are a sportsman and have to stand during the anthem, then every couch potato at home needs to get up off his or her ass and stand too. How can be say you are a patriot if you don’t stand as if you were at the game. Or, just stop playing the anthem! It’s quiet protest, no rioting, no burning, no police action . . . wait, a lot of high schools have banned kneeling, what it you do, are the police coming to make you stand up.
It’s all a ruse on the patriotic side to turn attention away from what really matters and why players are kneeling in the first place.
There, I’ve been hiding my Canadian leftness, I guess.

then wear it, at least through the ceremony. In the honeymoon suite . . . Though if this gent can bend and tickle, and choose baby names, then I suspect he has seen and removed those seraphic petticoats before. Grinning with a lop-sided smile and a wink and a nod. (Think Monty Python — “is she a goer.”)

Well done Lorraine! Great use of the wordle this week :)
you’ve used them in a delightful way, setting a scene from a time long before, and yet, it still resonates today – with just enough of the frivolous delicious – I’m thinking on the idea of petticoats – seraphic?? now that was unusual and yet works so well, especially with the lovely embellishment in description of the flowers –
great word play and use of terms like “borrowed and blue” etc.
I’ve enjoyed this muchly – and I do hope you are feeling better – cheesecake has ultimate healing properties – LOL – and if it’s helped appease the cold devils, then all hail and praise!
thanks for playing the wordle and stay tuned for Monday – we have a guest post a’comin’ :D

Yes, I remember the salt-water gargling. My throat was so sore I did think about doing that. Also beats steaming yourself leaning over a pot of water — with witch hazel if my mother prepared it. Got lots of folk remedies from her. Baking soda is an essential!
