Patience. Lao Tzu’s “Do you have patience to wait until your mud settles, and the water is clear?” What a wonderful definition of patience!
Yes, I need to learn to “adopt the pace of nature” because “my days are a furnace of stress and anxiety.”
Thanks Wendy for choosing three quotes about patience.
“Adopt the pace of nature;
her secret is patience.”
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
“When I run after ehat I think I want,
my days are a furnace of stress and anxiety;
if I sit in my own place of patience,
what I need flows to me,
and without pain.”
~ Rumi
“Do you have patience to wait until your mud settles,
and the water is clear?
Can you remain unmoving until the right action arrives by itself?
~ Lao Tzu (Toa Te Ching)

my dualistic/duelistic nature? by my non-existent virtues, I can be saintly when it comes to certain very specific things …. and absolutely impossibly impatient for most others – then the bossy boots, demanding, churlish me snarls and snaps ….. aghhhhh!
But this is a dual message – it’s not just about the word “patience” or “patient” – it’s also about surrendering to allow for things to happen as they will, when they will.
But it’s damn hard, getting harder still, when we are living in a world that is non-stop “instant” everything – and as some recent blogger featured on WP suggested – everything – “our lives” are being glossed and airbrushed to “present the perfect picture” all of the time ….. and in snap bites ….
*sigh*
but these are wonderful quotes ….
thanks for the reblogging of Wendy’s work – and just because (((((((((((Lorraine)))))))

Oh dear. I guess I’m not quite in the airbrushed, perfect picture — you should see my selfies, lol. But I know what you mean; we have fake news and real facts and everythinghappensinstantouslysothatpatienceisathingofthepastavicenotavirtue.
I’m not good on the surrendering part — allowing things to unfold — I rip at the wrappings. I need to get the “calms”, as you said in another comment.

I can understand what you mean – but hey, we’re all just doing the best we can, just as we are, working with just how we are – and that is more than enough …..
