I was there, that afternoon, air thick as marmalade. That afternoon the officer came to our house. I was petulant – something silly over your rummaging through my wardrobe, looking for something slinky, sexy for your assignation with the tall, lightly tanned lover you acquired.
That remained my attitude when the thick knocks and bang of boots came against the door. Just Dominquez, being liberosious, playing at solider I was sure. I opened the door, fearing nothing. But there he stood, with eyes so dark, set deep in hollow eye sockets, I could see my reflection. And his desire to kill; that lethal look. I banished the thought. You were only a young girl in love, not a threat to the state. Transparent as glass; thrum of permitted songs your voice.
I have the splintered memory – your sly smile among my scarves and dresses – your screams as you were dragged away. Stripped, split, prepared for court; deck rigged against your innocence. I sat front row, clutching key to our house, our place, awaiting your release; your return. But I stay alone there; we lost the fight. You are the missing.

The piece reminded me of the sad times in South and Central America. Sad times that still play themselves out all over the world.

Great descriptions most definantly raw and pretty horrible. I love how you wrote this, it definantly grates.

well done – and encompassing in scope – and definitely adept and skillful use of the wordle and the other prompts as well :)
tells an interesting story – with just the right amount of tension and unease ….

Thanks — my mind was thinking of things dark and the missing in Central and South America often haunt me.

I had a sense of this, because as I was reading, I was thinking of Bono and U2 etc., sort of a like a quiet soundtrack in my head.

well, they have always existed, it’s a question of how, why and how much you will let it affect you, and what you can do, in your own way, to help ease the world wide strife ….

true. feel just too depressed and ineffectual. can’t make myself make the necessary efforts. worthlessness overwhelms.

sometimes we can’t take on the world …. and maybe it’s not your role to storm the battlefronts on a grand scale? and that’s okay – but if you can change your mindset, your personal corner of the world, in some small but effective way, then that *is* something ……
just a thought …. because I do understand the struggle

Thank you — I’ve been thinking of the increasing disparate world we live in, brutal regimes past and present.
From the green of Earth Day, to the blood split of and by those on Earth.
