“Drum roll, ta dah. Now you can open your eyes.” Tim had her close them as he ushered her into his kitchen. Two luscious slices of cake adorned his crowded kitchen counter. “Sorry – didn’t get time to tidy up much.” He seemed embarrassed by his slackness. He busied himself making coffee.
“That’s okay,” Sandy replied, “Cake is the important thing. Can I have a taste of each?”
The tension left Tim’s shoulders. “She’s a keeper,” he thought, “Even if this is only our fifth date.”
Sandy had similar thoughts. “Wait til you see my place . . .” (99)
