My 2nd ever quadrille (wet whisper my first) for Björn’s dawn quadrille #25 for d’verse. Late to the party, but snuck in any ways.
as you finger trace
the contours of my
undulating scars,
puckered skin snaking
red pink cross my wrists
the dawn light falls
on me – knowledge
that all your wounds lie
inward, uncounted,
protected
untouched by my
being held so close in
your arms

Thank you Grace.
I think we only let people see those invisible scars when we trust — which those very scars make so hard to do.
I enjoyed my visit to D’verse.

Wow! This is one amazing piece – as so many have said.
Stunning – simply stunning – the layers so wrapped up in each other and yet unfolding, opening like a flower blossom.
Truly – a great piece Lorraine – you should definitely mark this as a “keeper” moment. :D

Thanks — that’s high praise. I will mark it as a keeper. Probably should see if I have any other keepers, lol.

Lorraine, your Freudian slip is showing quite well here. 2nd ever Quadrille? You’re a natural. That being said, you write a powerful and compelling vision with so many layers to love. And I love them all. This is done so well!

Thank you, Walter. I am a free verser trying to be more concise so the Quadrille is a good mental exercise for me.
I’m so glad that you enjoyed how I put the words together. Sometimes the weave works better than others.

Don’t I know it, Lorraine! It’s like looming a fabric. If we don’t like a bit of it, we’ll unravel and redo! Either way, we’re writing!

I tried leaving a comment on your blog re your quadrille, but I’m having problems doing that so here is what I wrote:
I love the rhyme, rhythm and reason — the beat is strong, the message stronger.

Seemed to be a problem all around. My comment to yours was rejected three times, so I was surprised you had gotten it. Thanks for the kind words!

Thank you. Thinking how we all bear some scars — the outer and the inner.

Scars and wounds- maybe it’s the pain making it pleasure

Nice ending ‘untouched…. in your arms’. Plenty of things said within the line

Great — I’ve got several with overlapping lines, so might make it a po.em cycle.

Actually, the last time we used the same lines it came out as separate thoughts. Even starting on different lines in order, rearranges the mood of it. 😀

I liked the comparison of the scars on the wrist of one person to the scars hidden inside the other.

I like how you knitted so much into this poem. My favourite image is that of the “contours of my undulating scars”.
