QKJ 16: Blue Monday: It’s easy to be worried now. Give us one good reason not to be worried.
Bobby McFerrin Don’t Worry, Be Happy
Bobby says,
don’t worry, be happy
just give him a call
don’t worry, be happy
he don’t mind at all
don’t worry, be happy
no reason to forestall
don’t worry, be happy
if you’re under a pall
don’t worry, be happy
no reason to brawl
don’t worry, be happy
you’re no oddball
just don’t worry, be happy
don’t worry, just be happy

I hadn’t seen the video before today; the song popped into my head when I read today’s prompt. I listened to it, and thought — don’t worry, be happy — at all costs, above all else, despite the craziness and the sadness — as you suggest “a choice” we can make.

Lorraine, I like this so much. Its repetition mimics the song, which always felt so empty to me…no reasoning, just rhythm. In a way, that just doesn’t make sense, doesn’t offer us any respite. And yet…is there any other way? Sometimes “be happy” is just such a CHOICE.
