Lorrie, Helen’s sister, is filling in this week and has chosen the theme for Song Lyric Sunday: songs that make you feel better. There is the “dancy” music, a song I just can’t sit still while it’s playing.

As I wrote earlier this week:

Being rapid cycle bipolar 2 is like the playlists groove (music service) makes up for me. One song has me dancing across the kitchen floor; the next has me huddled in the corner by the fridge, hugging my knees, rocking and crying uncontrollably. Then a dancing type song later on pulls me to my feet. . . .

Music gets me through. Comfort food for the ear and soul. Brings me to a better space and/or time in my life. Wraps me in the smells of apple crisp and ice cream or fresh barley bread.

Music hugs me. Holds me tight like a friend, like a lover. Swings me around; tickles me to make me laugh at the world and at myself. Especially now with YouTube and the official videos for songs that have more humour than expected.

Music makes me feel better; so hard to choose one song that represents the various ways music does this.

cyndi-lauper

Decided Cyndi Lauper’s Girls Just Wanna Have Fun fits into the dancy and makes me laugh. Makes me smile all these years later. Says something for Cyndi!

Girls Just Want to Have Fun

Cyndi Lauper

I come home in the morning light
My mother says when you gonna live your life right
Oh mother dear we’re not the fortunate ones
And girls they want to have fun
Oh girls just want to have fun

The phone rings in the middle of the night
My father yells what you gonna do with your life
Oh daddy dear you know you’re still number one
But girls they want to have fun
Oh girls just want to have

That’s all they really want
Some fun
When the working day is done
Girls, they want to have fun
Oh girls just want to have fun

Some boys take a beautiful girl
And hide her away from the rest of the world
I want to be the one to walk in the sun
Oh girls they want to have fun
Oh girls just want to have

That’s all they really want
Some fun
When the working day is done
Girls, they want to have fun
Oh girls just want to have fun,
They want to have fun,
They want to have fun
